• Tea with the Queen!

One of the advantages of being a Royal Lookalike is having other Royal lookalikes as friends. When we get together for a photo shoot it's almost as though we're having a family reunion. So, when it comes to making someone's birthday just that extra-bit-special, there's nothing better than being able to contact a few Royals and invite them to tea! My husband's BIG 70 seemed an ideal occasion to celebrate with afternoon tea at Brown's Hotel in London.

I had great difficulty keeping things a secret but had explained that there would be a little surprise awaiting my dear man at the hotel. While we were waiting for our table, who should walk in but the Queen and Kate. "Oh look, it's The Queen!" exclaimed my Other Half. "Oh, and Kate too!" (Having seen so many photos of the Royal ladies he recognised them immediately. However, he still hadn't realised that they were there for him!) "What a coincidence!". It came as quite a shock when the penny finally dropped!

When our table was ready we let The Queen go first, followed by Kate and then myself with my OH bringing up the rear. It was the first time my husband had ever been in the company of any of the other lookalikes so he was suitably amused when he saw the jaws of other diners dropping onto their napkins!

I'd already greeted The Queen (Mary Reynolds) with a curtsey and a kiss and Kate (Gabriella Douglas) with a kiss (her turn to curtsey to me in the absence of William!) so the occupants of the tea-room were already nudging one another. The staff were also clearly confused. It was only towards the end of our stay that our waiter came up to me and, clearly feeling very awkward and embarrassed, was busting a gut to find out what was going on. "I mean, you look like Camilla and this lady looks like the Queen and this lady like Kate! Is it just a coincidence?" I explained that no, we worked together. He was clearly very excited and said that had he known we were coming we could have had a table in the window or, even better, the centre of the room. (I was then much relieved that I hadn't alerted them!)

So, it was lovely to have a relaxed catch-up and to find out what adventures the others had been having; (Mary six days in Edinburgh with Alison Jackson and a trip to Germany and Gabriella a tour of Australia and New Zealand!) It was such a wonderful birthday treat for my man, certainly one to remember.
